Yewande Awe, Ph.D.
Senior Environmental Engineer, The World Bank
Dr. Yewande Awe is a Senior Environmental Engineer in the World Bank's Environment, Natural Resources, and Blue Economy global practice, with over 25 years' experience on issues at the intersection of pollution management, climate change, poverty alleviation, and development policy. She is the Program Manager of the World Bank's Pollution Management and Environmental Health program. Dr. Awe leads the Air Quality Management Community of Practice, a group of 200 specialists at the World Bank. She led the preparation of the World Bank Group's Environment Strategy for 2012-2022, which influenced World Bank operations in the environment and pollution management across Africa; East Asia and the Pacific; Eastern Europe and Central Asia; Latin America and the Caribbean; the Middle East; North Africa; and South Asia. Dr. Awe has led the preparation and supervision of analytical work and development policy and investment lending operations on sustainable development, pollution management, environmental health, solid waste management, and environmental management various countries, including Kosovo, North Macedonia, Bosnia, and Herzegovina, Poland, Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, Argentina, El Salvador, OECS countries, Lao PDR, and Yemen. Dr. Awe co-led the organization of a side event on Linking Air Quality Management to Climate Change Mitigation during the UNFCCC COP 26.
